88" x 53" (223cm x 135cm)Acrylic paint on cotton, hand dyed canvas, perle cotton and vintage crochet thread embroidery (quilt) 2026
Boot Hill and The Guardian Snakes is a life size window, a portal almost, to a Montana valley. The window frame is pieced, rectangles of solid fabric sewn together and is based on an actual lead paint window frame of my late father’s cabin. The architectural lines play against the loose brushstrokes of the scene outside, which shows the edge of the ridge where he is buried, and the grass snakes who guard the home.
The background is hand dyed painting canvas, once starched and firm the canvas is now soft and references the color of soot stained logs.
This piece is hand quilted and embroidered with sewing thread, embroidery thread and crochet thread.
